Acetone is a checmical found in pain thinner and when added to gasoline can boost your gas mileage through the roof. You don't have to add much and the results are amazing. The catch is a risk of flamability if you store it improperly, and if you car has cheap plastic innards, the acetone will eat through everything.

My mother and sisters all used acetone to take nail polish off. I have seen acetone bottles in our medicine cabinet my entire life. I always liked the smell but never actually used it (manly me!!!).
Anyway, for vehicle gas mileage I see the possibility but definitely I would watch out for its highly corrosive properties. Of course, in a low-mix solution such as indicated might be another story.
I'll be waiting for numerous other individuals to test it out before I drop it in my tank.
intresting idea, i wonder if this is the gasoline equivalent to bio-diesel
Obviously, wait to see acetone prices skyrocket as soon as the demand starts to soar... so in the end you simply switch the type of cost associated with automobile transportation. I may have a better idea, though.
I'm in an 'adventure' oriented car group and have posted this ... we'll see if we get some tests as some of these guys are gas mileage nuts.
BTW ... they'll be trying it in VW TDIs ... diesel. (incidently noting the comment above ... I run biodiesel)
I won't be trying this in my car.
Case Study: Acetone as a fuel additive
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
This is part of the general conspiracy everyone in the world has been led to believe regarding the internal combustion engine.
Is it used or banned in motor-sport racing? That can be a good indicator of how realistic it is.
Never mind that its one of THE most carcinogenic chemicals there are.
